Ladies 2nd XI 2 vs. Clevedon 1st XI 2

23/1/16: Mendip had to settle to share the points from this match when in fact they were hoping for victory to bolster their lowly league position. Mendip failed to get into their stride during the 1st half and like in so many other matches this season went behind.  Two goals separated the sides by half time.

The Mendip fight back began early in the 2nd half when centre forward ace Carol Holmes struck home from a well worked short corner routine. Mendip kept a clean sheet this half with a noteworthy performance from Kate Penn in central defence. Player of the match was Cosima Burgess who had a great game at left back with timely tackles and good ball distribution. Captain Jackie Browning marshalled her team from central midfield encouraging them to attack and go in search of more goals.

The equaliser came again from Holmes who connected with a through ball into the D to beat the Clevedon keeper. Both teams stepped up the pressure and pace during the final few minutes going in search of the winning goal but it was not to be.

Next week Mendip play host at Norton Hill School, Midsomer Norton to Keynsham which promises to be a keenly contested fixture as neither teams’ place is safe in Brunel 1.
