Mendip made their unbeaten opponents work hard for their win in an entertaining encounter at Norton Hill on Saturday.
An even first half saw the visitors score first with a well-taken penalty corner strike. Mendip kept the Bournemouth keeper busy, with the pace of forwards Amy McGowan, Charlene Vranch and Jasmine Scott causing all sorts of problems. Eventually Scott got the better of the goalie, showing composure beyond her years to chip the ball in.
Bournemouth retook the lead early in the second half, working the ball down the right and slotting home from close range.
Mendip fought hard to get back on terms, forcing a penalty corner, which Vranch converted with a fierce shot.
With six minutes remaining, and a draw looking a fair result, Bournemouth took advantage of a lapse in concentration in the Mendip defence to edge ahead once more. They then converted a contentious penalty corner in the final minute to put the result beyond doubt.
Mendip now take a break from league action, with friendly fixtures against Winscombe and Old Bristolians scheduled before the Christmas break.
