30/08/14 : Mendip got their season off to a good start in this friendly fixture away to Prior Park. Consisting of players from both 2nd and 3rd teams, this was the first time many had played together but every Mendip player worked hard throughout the match. New comers, Courtney Wareham and Monica Glover supported the attack well creating chances and adding pace.
Left midfielder Olivia Sheppard broke the deadlock midway through the 1st half with a superb solo goal. After battling to win the ball she drove towards the D to unleash an unstoppable shot putting her team in the lead. Prior Parks answer to this came shortly before half time with a well worked goal.
An exciting second half ensued with end to end hockey action. Mendip’s defence held strong with a note-worthy performance from Cosima Burgess. She was always strong in the tackle and distributed the ball well. Jess Smith also did a fantastic job for Mendip in midfield working tirelessly throughout the match.
Mendip made the most of a flowing right wing attacking move to double their lead. Mourmour Manfriel was on hand in the D, perfectly positioned to connect with the cross and beat the keeper. Prior Park battled well until the end but were unable to get back into the match.
Next Saturday Mendip host a club tournament at Norton Hill School, 2-4pm. If not already done so, Mendip players please let Hayley Bullock know your availabilities.
