Ladies 1st XI 3 vs. Frome 1st XI 1

11/10/14: Mendip’s season took a turn for the better on Saturday, as they put in a great team performance against local rivals Frome. The home side looked determined from the start, with April Callow adapting well to a new role in midfield, and Cherilyn Carey rolling back the years at centre forward.  Mendip opened the scoring midway through the first half, when Hayley Bullock and Hayley Young worked a neat short corner routine, with Captain Bullock finding the crucial finishing touch.  Frome levelled shortly after, with Jo Brooks-Scully slotting home a penalty stroke after the ball was adjudged to have struck a Mendip foot on the goal line.  The remainder of the half saw Mendip continuing to look strong, with some fluent passing and movement.  Mendip regained the lead on 45 mintues, when Bullock showed great determination to beat the Frome keeper, following excellent build up play from Charlene Vranch, Meg Adams and Hayley Young.  Fee Phimunchat secured the victory with a fiercely-struck effort, which deflected into the roof of the net off an opponenent’s stick.
Captain Bullock will hope that Mendip can continue to build on this excellent result as they move towards this Saturday’s fixture, away to West Wilts at Kingdown School, Warminster (11:30am).
