25/10/14: Mendip’s up and down season continued this week when they suffered a defeat away to league topping opposition Mid Somerset. The well organised, hard hitting home side were made to work for their victory however. Mendip, who have not been able to field the same team twice this season due to illness and availabilities, put in a good account of themselves but just lacked the finishing touches in the D.
Despite good hockey from Captain Jackie Browning in midfield and great defensive work by Liv Webster, Mendip went into the break 3 goals down. The highlight of the second half for Mendip was a goal scored by centre forward Carol Holmes who beat the keeper at the second time of asking after her 1st shot rebounded. The home side did double their tally this half but had it not been for a formidable performance by Mendip goal keeper Jenny Dallimore, the gap between the teams would have been greater. She pulled off some excellent saves earning herself the player of the match award in the process.
Next week Mendip play a friendly fixture away to West Wilts.
