Ladies 1st XI 1 vs. Bournemouth 2nd XI 4

17.01.15 : Despite an excellent first half performance, which saw Mendip hold high-flying Bournemouth to nil-nil at half time, Mendip slipped to a fourth consecutive league defeat on Saturday.  Mendip looked bright from the outset, with solid tackling from Sammy Chivers and Hayley Bullock in defence, combined with great distribution from April Callow and Hayley Young in midfield. Good movement off the ball by player of the match Ella Sage consistently caused problems for the Bournemouth defence, with Mendip creating as many first half chances as their hosts.  Bournemouth took the lead with a tame effort just after half time, and this proved to be a catalyst for the game. Strong running down the right saw Bournemouth create more chances, and they were soon two ahead.   Sage gave Mendip hope after 50 minutes, working a neat one-two with Young to slot the ball home, but Bournemouth scored twice more to quash any hopes of a comeback.  This Saturday, Mendip face ninth-placed Devizes at Norton Hill (1:30pm), in what could prove to be a crucial game in the battle against relegation.
