24.01.15: A beautiful January morning at Norton Hill, with overnight temperatures above freezing, meant the 3rds were able to play this Saturday. Pre-match words from captain Lucy Hemings put emphasis on starting the match strongly rather than leaving the best hockey for the second half as recent games have seen.
All players took this to heart and the first half saw some excellent flowing play, sharp passing, good communication and confident support. The team’s efforts were rewarded mid way with a short corner penalty taken very strongly by Emma Moffat. More probing play resulted in a second goal from player of the match Jasmine Scott as Mendip forwards and halves combined well in the D not allowing North Somerset defenders to clear the ball.
North Somerset started the second half with much more expansive play but Mendip defense dealt calmly with their attempts to break through with any shots towards goal going wide, well-watched by keeper Oenone Bodman-Harris. Mendip’s third goal came from Kate Foley’s accurate penalty flick completing a great score for a hard-working team.
Emma Moffat,
