10/10/15: Mendip’s unbeaten start to the season continued on Saturday with a goalless draw against local rivals Frome. The game was predictably attritional, with the sturdy Frome defence proving a match for Mendip’s pace and enthusiasm. But for an exceptional display from the Frome keeper and the width of a post, Mendip could have taken an early lead, with Ella Sage and April Callow both going close. Frome gradually began to work their way into the game, with some neat passing down the right flank, but the Mendip defence held firm. The second half saw Mendip continue to create the better of the chances, with Jess Smith and Charlotte Lucas drawing further saves from the Frome keeper. Mendip began to push the play deep into Frome territory, with joint players of the match Jess Harding and Hayley Bullock both surging forward from midfield. Fullback Sammy Chivers also got in on the act, making some strong runs down the Mendip right, but to no avail. This Saturday, Mendip travel to Devizes (11:15 am).
