30/1/16:
On Saturday Mendip played host to local rivals Keynsham and with both teams in the bottom half of the table, everything was to play for.
Mendip started well, keen to make an early break through to take some of the weight off their shoulders, and kept possession of the ball well to create some early chances. The mother-daughter midfield duo Jackie and Emily Browning linked well with each other, and with the team, to keep Keynsham under pressure and to ensure that Mendip dominated for much of the first half. Mendip were unlucky not to score, with right wing Karen Inns causing problems for the Keynsham defence so that their keeper had to pull off some impressive acrobatic saves to stop the attack.
Keynsham came out strong in the second half, with their intentions on putting more pressure on the Mendip defence. However the defenders were up to the challenge, with Cosima Burgess in particular at left back putting in many tackles to stop the visitors progressing. Mendip kept battling until the end, showing a great team performance and also demonstrating how much they have come on throughout the season and were unfortunate not to take something from this game. There were 3 joint players of the match: Karen Inns, Emily Browning and Cosima Burgess who each showed individual skill and confidence on the ball.
Next week Mendip are away to Nailsea, push back 11:30am.
