10/10/15 :
Mendip travelled to Keynsham for their third league match of the season and had a strong start to this game, despite the fact that some players were out of position. The defence had a busy first half, with Esther Selway soaking up a lot of the pressure. Player of the match Karen Inns at right back put in some timely tackles to keep the home team from advancing and then aided Mendip in some attacking chances created early on. Unfortunately, Keynsham found the back of the net twice in the first half, with both goals scored by a very skilled player who Mendip had struggled to contain.
Mendip came back out in the second half very determined and their play reflected this: good passing moves helped to create a lot of chances for the visitors. After a period of sustained pressure, Carol Holmes helped to lessen the deficit when a goal-bound shot took Keynsham by surprise and found its way to the back of the net. However, Keynsham managed to get another goal back to give them a two goal lead again.
Spurred on with belief that they could take something from this match, Mendip began to keep possession and deny Keynsham any more chances. A rather ambitious through ball send left wing Connie Glover on the run and after a misjudgement from the Keynsham keeper, the ball bounced off the post to allow Glover an easy tap in to keep Mendip in contention. Mendip battled hard right up until the final whistle and were unfortunate to not get a point from this match.
Next week Mendip are at home against Nailsea, 10:30am push back.
