Ladies 2nd XI 4 vs. Jaspers 1st XI 1

7/11/15: Mendip earned themselves a very welcome victory at the weekend ensuring that they swapped position with their opponents in the league table.

During the opening passages of play Mendip had the lion’s share of possession and this pressure ensured they went into the lead. Centre forward Carol Holmes fired home a cracking shot following a short corner routine. Holmes later bagged her brace of goals near the end of the first half to consolidate Mendip’s lead yet further.

Jasper’s reply to going behind initially was quite swift and they managed to draw level. Great work and another short corner routine goal from Mendip captain Jackie Browning ensured her team regained the lead however.

The Mendip defence stood firm throughout the 2nd half with left back Cosima Burgess having a particularly good game. Player of the match was left midfielder Olivia Sheppard who showed great determination and with persistent hassling kept the Mendip left side strong.

Another goal from Browning in the 2nd half ensured the game was in the bag for Mendip. They will now look to build on this performance when they travel to play Clevedon 2nds, a team with their feet firmly on the bottom of the league table, next Saturday.
