23/1/16 : Recently this fixture has become an equally matched great game so hopes were high for some fabulous hockey from both sides. Within the first 5 minutes Mendip were awarded a penalty flick. A nervous Madison Collins was picked and scored a very stylish point with great strength through the ball. Bluebirds came back soon after with a forward receiving a long ball outside the D and playing a well-worked goal around the home keeper. 1-1 at half time, with Bluebirds defence keeping the home side at bay.
With the pummeling Bluebirds’ goal had received in the first half, surely the ball must start going over the line in the second? Lots of very talented mid-field play from Mendip, plenty of foresight from the backs and more great right wing moves between Ella Constable and Amy McGowan finally produced the points. Player of the match Amy McGowan scored twice, and Sarah Pearce bagged yet another touch on the left post.
