Ladies 3rd XI 0 vs. Mid Somerset 2nd XI 1

27/09/14: In an eagerly anticipated league season opener a new look Mendip Ladies 3rd team, with six league debutantes, faced recently relegated Mid Somerset in a home clash at Norton Hill. The first half saw Mendip under pressure from the outset with Mid Somerset threatening the circle several times. However the home side defended solidly with keeper Oenone Bodman-Harris making several confident saves to deny the visitors an early lead. The start of the second half saw evenly matched play and tense moments as both teams made attacking moves but the visitors finally took the lead with a soft goal as Mendip floundered. The final 20 minutes of the match saw Mendip dominate and narrowly miss an equaliser as a shot from winger Madison Collins bounced off the post while at the other end her sister and player of the match Olivia made several important clearances to hold off the opposition. In spite of the scoreline Mendip gave an impressive performance in their first league clash and look forward to next Saturday vs South Gloucestershire.
