Ladies 2nd XI 0 vs. Somerset Gryphons 2nds 1

22/11/14:  Mendip were expecting a tough encounter against a team which had been demoted back into Brunel Division 1 this season and they were unlucky not to come away with a point from this match.

As the game unfolded it became clear that Mendip were equal to Somerset Gryphons and would prove tough to beat. Lots of good passing and periods of concerted pressure from Mendip ensured the teams went in goal less at half time. Grace Harding and Esther Selway were strong in defence and Captain Jackie Browning worked hard in midfield. Mendip failed to press home their advantage having several shots on goal saved throughout the match.

Mendip fell behind to a break-away goal from Gryphons minutes from the final whistle and despite their best efforts were unable to pull anything back. Mendips player of the match was Olivia Sheppard who had an absolutely storming game at left midfield. Her work rate was exemplary sticking to the task of supporting both attack and defence.

Mendip can take many positives from this match and will look to build on this next week when they travel to face Lodway for the final league fixture before the Christmas break.
