7/2/15: Following on from the high of last weeks’ victory, Mendip’s low came in the 2nd half of this match away to Keynsham.
For much of the 1st half the visitors matched the well drilled, strong Keynsham side and capitalised on good attacking play. They went into the break with a 2 goal lead thanks to a hat trick of goals from centre forward Carol Holmes. Her determined efforts in the D and cracking shots ensured she had a share of Mendip’s player of the match award.
Good work in defence from Grace Harding and Esther Selway restricted the hosts to just one goal in the 1st half and Olivia Sheppard worked tirelessly on the right to support the Mendip attack.
Mendip struggled to find their form in the second half with their team play lacking the usual movement and support. They found themselves increasingly under pressure and gradually saw their lead diminish. Despite the best efforts of the 2 other joint players of the match Captain Jackie Browning and defender Becky Kettle, Keynsham took the lead shortly before the final whistle.
Next week Mendip stay in Midsomer Norton to play Cheddar at Norton Hill School, 1.30pm start.
