14/3/15: Mendip moved a step closer to safety in East Division with a hard-fought win over Gillingham on Saturday.
The visitors conceded two early goals, and were forced to draw on all of their experience to get back into contention. Fortunately for Mendip, the inimitable double act of Hannah Bartholomew and Charlotte Lucas, both returning from maternity leave, offered experience and composure in spades, and provided the catalyst that Mendip needed. Bartholomew gave Mendip hope on the stroke of half-time, finishing a neat penalty corner routine with an excellent strike.
Player of the match Brenda Scott pulled Mendip level at the start of the first half, collecting April Callow’s super cross and firing the ball past the on-rushing keeper. Callow then added her own name to the scoresheet, scoring with a great shot which secured three vital points.
This Saturday, Mendip face Wimborne Wayfarers at Norton Hill (10:30am).
