5/3/16: Mendip Ladies 1’s travelled to Bath Uni on Saturday to face 3rd in the league Bath Buccs. The game started with a high tempo from both teams and there was a fair share of possession from both sides. Ella Sage used her speed on the right to test the Buccs defence and linked well with Jess Harding to pressure the Buccs keeper. Charlene Vranch demonstrated her excellent stick skills and had a few near misses in the first half. Buccs continued to press but they struggled to penetrate through the Mendip defence and had little opportunity to test Mendip’s youngster Oenone Bodmin-Harris in goal. Half time and it was deadlock with no goals. The second half saw Mendip take control and maintain a majority of the possession. The joint players of the match Jess Harding and Charlene Vranch created the first goal of the game, Jess having the first strike and Charlene quick to respond to the rebound slotting the ball past the keeper. However Bath responded and Mendip found themselves deep in the own half defending the lead. With only 5 minutes to go, a long ball found Vranch who scored her second goal of the match but with this Mendip knew they had the win.
Next week Mendip travel to Bournemouth who are currently top of the table.
