Mendip missed out on a deserved away point on Saturday, with Wimborne sneaking in a deflected effort in the dying minutes to clinch victory.
The home side opened the scoring early on from a counter-attacking move down the right which left the Mendip defence out-numbered. Mendip were quick to respond, with Jasmine Scott putting the finishing touch to a great passing move from Charlene Vranch and Amy McGowan.
The visitors worked hard to create more first-half chances, but the Wimborne defence was well-drilled and kept the scores level until half time.
The second half saw Mendip Captain April Callow switch to a more attacking formation, with player of the match Cosima Burgess pushing up into midfield. Despite the youngster’s excellent support play down the left, Mendip found it hard to create clear-cut chances, and the game looked to be petering out into a draw. However, Wimborne, and an unfortunate foot, struck to give the home side three points and leave Mendip empty handed.
This Saturday, Mendip face their third consecutive away fixture when they travel to City of Bath (12 noon).
