Keynsham 0 – 1 Mendip Ladies 2XI

Mendip travelled to play Keynsham with a full squad but minus their Captain due to illness. Forward Karen Inns stepped up to the captaincy and also became the provider of the only goal of the game.

From the start the sides seemed well matched but gradually Mendip got into their stride to pile on more pressure. The home team were caught on the break when left wing MaddyCollins collected the ball in midfield and made a great run into the D. Her cross eventually found Inns who simply had to tap the ball across the line to put Mendip in front.

Goal keeper Danielle Seymour was instrumental in maintaining Mendip’s lead. As well as pulling off some excellent saves throughout the match she also saved a penalty flick shortly before half time.

After the break the visitors’ defence was under more pressure as the home team searched for an equaliser. However, with strong work and good positional play from right wing Jess Baird, Mendip were equal to the task. Defender Cosima Burgess and midfielder Ella Constable also worked tirelessly in both halves of the match to ensure Mendip kept a clean sheet.

Mendip’s player of the match was Maddie Collins for sterling work down the left wing. Her tenacious tackling, pace and determination troubled the Keynsham defence throughout the game.

Next week Mendip play host to North Somerset. 1.30pm start at Norton Hill School.
