Mendip Ladies 1XI 2 – 1 West Wilts

Mendip followed up last week’s valuable away point with a hard-earned home victory over fourth place West Wilts.

Wilts gave their hosts an early scare, scoring a well taken goal after just five minutes.

Mendip responded well, with player of the match Sammy Chivers making some super runs down the right flank. After a spell of concerted pressure, Charlene Vranch picked up April Callow’s through-ball to fire home an equaliser before half time.

Chances were few and far between for both sides in the third quarter. Mendip then took the lead, with Jasmine Scott putting the finishing touch to a great team move.

Wilts pressed hard for a late equaliser of their own, but Mendip left back Cherilyn Carey made some telling interceptions late on to ensure the three points.

This Saturday sees Mendip travel to bottom of the table Devizes, in what is likely to be a trickier fixture than the form book would predict. Pushback 11:15am.
