Mendip Ladies 2XI 0 – 4 North Somerset

Mendip started this match strongly and for the first quarter looked the better side, dominating possession and pressuring the visitors’ defence. Great work in midfield from Ella Constable and speedy forward runs from Maddy Collins ensured much of the play was in Mendip’s attacking half.

It was against the run of play when North Somerset broke and scored which perhaps unsettled Mendip. The visitors added 2 more before the half time whistle. Had it not been for the efforts of goal keeper Oneone Bodman-Harris, the gap between the teams may have been greater as she made some excellent saves.

Despite being behind, Mendip still looked to attack and get back into the match but unfortunately were unable to convert any of their chances. It was central midfielder Sally Stanford who came closest to putting her team on the scoresheet when her shots went just wide of the goal.

Throughout the match defender Georgia Price stood out for her remarkable tackles, calmness in possession and great distribution of the ball. Her performance ensured she was Mendip’s player of the match.

The visitors were held to just adding 1 more goal to their total in the 2nd half which is one positive Mendip will take from this match.

No match for Mendip next week but they regroup again for a league encounter in Midsomer Norton on 5th November against Bristol University 3, 10.30am start.
