Mendip Ladies 1XI 3 – 0 Marlborough

Mendip’s first home fixture of the season saw them overcome a spirited Marlborough side to secure three points and climb to sixth place in East Division.

The home side opened the scoring, soaking up a spell of Marlborough pressure, before breaking quickly and forcing a penalty corner. Player of the match Ellie White found herself in a great position to slot home a deflection to give her side the lead.

Mendip’s penalty corner routine continued to cause Marlborough problems, and it was not long before Charlene Vranch had doubled the lead.

Brenda Scott sealed victory for Mendip early in the second half with a shot from the left that rifled  past the keeper and flew into the back of the net.

Marlborough looked dangerous on the break, but the Mendip defence, marshalled by keeper Carrie Tiley, were alert to the threat and worked hard to secure their first clean sheet of the season.

On Saturday, Mendip travel to Bath University to face TeamBath Buccs (12:30pm).
