Ladies 1st XI 0 vs. Gillingham 1

15/11/14: Mendip suffered a frustrating defeat on Saturday at the hands of Gillingham, who subsequently leap-frogged them in the East Division table.
A bright start saw Mendip attacking with pace down the right, with Sammy Chivers, Ellie Hudson and Ella Sage combining well. The Gillingham defence held firm, with the goalkeeper making a number of good saves.
The visitors took the lead against the run of play in the 35th minute, when a speculative shot from the top of the D found its way into the top of the Mendip net.
Mendip fought hard for an equaliser, with Charlene Vranch coming close on several occasions and Meg Adams also looking dangerous.
As the half wore on, Gillingham created a couple of chances on the counter attack, but Mendip left back Brenda Scott was consistently on hand to put in the crucial tackle and win back possession.
Mendip earned a series of penalty corners, but could not find the final touch to secure a deserved point.
Player of the match was Brenda Scott.
This Saturday, Mendip travel to Wimborne (12 noon).
