Ladies 2nd XI 0 vs. Cheddar 6

15/11/14:  Mendip travelled to Wells to face Cheddar and in this fast paced match the hosts were made to work for their victory. The game was not as one sided as perhaps the score line suggests. For periods throughout the match Mendip put together good attacking moves and looked strong but all too often were caught on the break resulting in them falling behind.

Mendip have been unable to field the same team twice this season so this match was the first time a few had ever played together. The new comers could not be faulted for their effort, in particular Jess Smith who played well down both wings throughout. Mendip keeper Jenny Dallimore saved many more than did cross the line and Esther Selway was strong in central defence. Mendip’s left side was bolstered by great performances from Olivia Sheppard and Cosima Burgess who linked and supported well.

Cheddar scored 3 goals in each half and the goal from Mendip in the second half which would have narrowed the gap was disallowed. Mendip’s player of the match was Grace Harding who proved her worth at right back with strong tackles, accurate passing and keenly tracking back.

Next week Mendip travel again to play Somerset Gryphons at Clevedon.
