19/3/16: Knowing only a win would do, Mendip began their last away match of the season with a positive attitude. Speedy midfielder Jasmine Scott, who was joint player of the match, used her pace to move the ball up the pitch and get the better of the North Somerset defence to create a number of attacking chances. After a period of sustained pressure Mendip’s centre-forward Carol Holmes converted a short corner to put her team into the lead in the middle of the first half.
During the closing stages of the first half, Mendip found themselves defending a lot more and their keeper and other joint player of the match, Danielle Seymour, was called into action to pull off some impressive saves to keep the home side out. Unfortunately North Somerset managed to find the back of the net to bring the score level just before half time.
Mendip came out again in the second half determined to take all three points from this match, but were unable to capitalise on their chances in front of goal. It was much more end-to-end and the Mendip defence were kept busy; central defender Kate Penn performed many great tackles and interceptions to keep her team in the match. The final score was a 1-1 draw, which may not be enough to keep Mendip above the relegation zone as the season comes to a close.
Next week Mendip have a friendly fixture at Norton Hill School, 10:30am push back
