Ladies 2nd XI 6 vs. Lodway 1st XI 3

28/3/15:  Mendip finished their league campaign in style with a victory over Lodway to finish a respectable 7th place in the table. It also sealed Lodway’s demotion to Brunel Division 2 next season.

The hosts soaked up early pressure from the visitors with Mendip’s goal keeper Jenny Dallimore making some excellent saves to keep her team in contention. Making a welcome return to the side, Emily Skyrme was particularly strong in her left defensive position and supported the Mendip attack well. Following great attacking hockey Mendip took the lead with a classic left wing goal. Perfectly positioned in the D, Cosima Burgess connected at the far post to beat the keeper and take the lead. Burgess was hard working and determined throughout the match and found the back of the net twice more in the 2nd half to claim her hat trick, earning herself player of the match in the process.

Mendip’s 2nd goal was scored by right midfielder Karen Inns who was on hand in the D to follow up on a rebound and slot the ball under the keeper. Centre forward Carol Homes bagged her brace of goals in the 2nd half when she masterminded emphatic strikes both a short corner routines.

The visitors managed to pull one goal back in the 1st half and then after the break were assisted with 2 more goals but they were always chasing the game and did not truly challenge Mendip’s lead who in the end proved worthy winners.
