24/10/15: Mendip went into this game determined not to be steamrolled by top-of-the-league Mid Somerset. Inevitably Mid Somerset started strongly but Mendip’s growing confidence kept the visitors at bay for the first quarter with some fine goal-line saves from keeper Jenny Dallimore and defender Maz Veater. Mendip managed to play the ball out of defence frequently only to lose control in the D and relinquish possession to the visitors, who scored twice before half-time.
Mendip’s team talk concentrated on taking the game to the visitors and maintaining control in the D to be able to score to reward all the hard work of the whole team. However, Mid Somerset continued their barrage, trying to find a way through Mendip’s defence which was calmly managed by Captain Lucy Hemings and Georgia Price. A third goal by Mid Somerset didn’t put a comeback by Mendip out of sight, with the midfield and forwards continuing to make great attacking runs upfield. Soon one such speedy break, well-supported by Sarah Pearce, Abbie Sage and Ella Constable, resulted in a fabulous goal by player of the match Amy McGowan.
