TeamBath Buccs 2 – 1 Mendip Ladies 1XI

Mendip matched their hosts for much of Saturday’s game at Bath University, but ultimately came away empty handed.

Buccs opened the scoring after 10 minutes, scrambling the ball home after a penalty corner routine had broken down. Mendip worked hard to get back on terms, with player of the match Sammy Chivers making some dangerous runs from right back, but the well-drilled Buccs defence was consistently on hand to cut out the final ball.

Buccs doubled their lead early in the second half, breaking quickly down the right slotting home at the far post.

Some astute substitutions and positional changes by coach James Callow gave Mendip renewed impetus, with Cosima Burgess linking well with Charlotte Lucas down the left. Mendip soon earned a penalty corner, which Lucas dispatched with aplomb to reduce the deficit. Amy McGowan and April Callow both used their pace to good effect to create chances to equalise late on, but the Buccs defence stood firm to secure the win.

This Saturday, Mendip take a break from league action, as they welcome Westberries to Norton Hill School (1:30pm).
