26/9/15: Mendip had a disappointing start to their league campaign suffering defeat away to Cheddar. The visitors started brightly and with Esther Selway back in defence they were able to absorb much of the early pressure. Mendip captain Jackie Browning opened the scoring with a clinical finish to a well worked attacking move.
Cheddar proved themselves to be a well drilled, determined side and were able to find the back of Mendip’s net 4 times in the 1st half. Had it not been for an outstanding performance in goal from player of the match Oenone Bodman-Harris then the gap between the teams would have been far greater.
Mendip conceded a further 4 goals in fairly quick succession during the second half but they kept battling and did not let their heads go down. Left midfielder Cosima Burgess worked particularly hard putting in timely tackles and showing great ball distribution.
Mendips 2nd second goal came in the dying seconds of the game when a short corner was awarded. Determined efforts to attack the goal culminated in a tap in from left wing Connie Glover which was at least a positive end to the match.
Next Saturday Mendip are home at Norton Hill School, Midsomer Norton playing host to Clevedon, 1.30pm pushback.
