The ladies 2s actually had something to celebrate this week!!! With 6 or 7 regular players out because it’s the half term weekend, we fielded a mixed squad this afternoon with myself stepping in to captain. Lots of third team players stepped up to help us and showed lots of determination and skill.

We began quite defensively whilst we were finding our feet, but it was nothing our defence of Grace Harding , Erin , and Eva Pearce couldn’t handle. Carrie Tiley made some brilliant saves to keep the score line at zero. We started to put some passes together and gradually put the visitors under more pressure to give ourselves a few attacking chances.

Down the rain came, and with it a Shepton short corner which ended in a scrappy goal. Their forward also broke her thumb in the process so we paused the game so most of their team could get a look and “help” whilst we got cold. With some sympathy, we forced them to finish the half and it remained 1-0 to Shepton.

We came out much stronger in the second half and our forwards Ruby and Carol Holmes were making some brilliant runs for our mids to pick out. Olivia Sheppard had the game of her life at left mid making many a driving run and linking with our central midfield particularly well.

With Shepton sitting back and letting us control the middle of the pitch, we kept pushing forwards and were rewarded with some short corners. The first two were well executed but didn’t amount in a goal. Third time lucky, Carol got on the end of a deflection and slotted the ball home to give us the goal we definitely deserved. The score line level we now wanted the win. Shepton did catch us on the break but our defence were equal to the challenge, with Colbie Roberts coming back to help us out and move the ball back up the pitch. The game ended 1-1, which was a pretty fair result and one we were happy with. I was player of the match for having a bit of a field day at defensive mid.

Thanks girls for all playing so well especially in such awful weather (particularly those who stepped up from the third team)! Pleasure to captain, but Jackie Browning you can have your job back next week!!!!Thank you to Michael Bristowe and Andrew Flint for umpiring, and to supporters on the sideline for spurring us on!Lovely lovely game and one of my favourites in a yellow shirt ???? now time for a beer!!!! Xxx
