8/11/14: Clinical finishing proved to be the difference between two well-matched teams on Saturday, as Mendip secured three points to move up to sixth in the table.
The first half saw Mendip keeping a tight ship, with the centre-back pairing of Anna Swift and Hayley Bullock making a number of timely interventions, and building play from the back. In midfield, April Callow and Jess Harding worked hard to cover every inch of the pitch between them, with the experienced Hayley Young distributing well from her holding role in the centre.
Mendip opened the scoring early in the second half, when youngster Ella Sage ran from half way and showed great composure to beat the Weymouth keeper one on one.
Whenever Weymouth mounted an offensive of their own, Mendip were quick to snuff out the attack, reducing the home side to a series of speculative efforts which went wide of the goal.
Mendip sealed the victory on 66 minutes, when a well-worked passing move down the left saw the ball find Cherilyn Carey, whose astute pass found Sage in space and she was able to slot the ball home.
Player of the match was Ella Sage.
This week Mendip face Gillingham at Norton Hill (1:30pm).
