Ladies 2nd XI 0 vs. West Wilts 2nds 0

1/11/14: Mendip Ladies First Team fixture against Clevedon was postponed as Clevedon were unable to raise a side.

West Wilts 0 – 0 Mendip Ladies Seconds

An experimental Mendip side put in an excellent performance against a well-drilled West Wilts outfit in Saturday’s friendly fixture. Wilts had the better of the early play, with Mendip forced to work hard in defence.  Youngster Olivia Collins, making her debut for the twos, adapted well to several changes in position and made a number of great tackles. Keeper Jenny Dallimore also had a good first half, including a fantastic double-save on the half hour that kept Mendip on terms at half time.
Mendip looked stronger in the second half, with player of the match April Callow making some super solo runs and striker Carol Holmes drawing a series of good saves from the Wilts’ keeper. As the game wore on, Wilts were reduced to an increasingly physical approach, with two players receiving cautions from the umpire. Mendip stayed strong, but were unable to find the crucial finishing touch to seal a win.

This Saturday’s fixtures:
East Division: Weymouth v Mendip 1st (away) 12:00
Brunel Division 1: Mendip 2nd v Keynsham (home) 13:30
Brunel Division 3: North Somerset 2nd v Mendip 3rd (away) 16:00
