Ladies 2nd XI 2 vs. Shepton Mallet 2nd XI 0

Mendip continued their winning ways with a hard-fought victory over Shepton Mallet at the weekend. The game began with both teams passing and tackling confidently and Mendip’s defence did well to hold off the early pressure from Shepton. Olivia Collins at right back put in many a perfectly timed tackle and cleared her lines well to ensure that the visitors did not put anything past Mendip.

After a long period of possession and good passing and moving from Mendip, the first goal came from Carol Holmes who hit the ball home to put her team in the lead.

The midfield linked well throughout the match to support both attack and defence. Player of the match Jess Smith had a brilliant game at right mid, as she passed the ball well and dribbled passed many players with ease to create lots of attacking opportunities.

Mendip continued their attacking play into the second half, when Carol Holmes got her second goal of the match after Emily Browning put in an accurate pass to assist her team mate. Lots of confident play followed with Mendip keeping possession of the ball well to create more chances, however Shepton were strong in defence and the score stayed at 2-0.

Next week Mendip begin their league campaign as they play Cheddar away at Wells Blue School, 11:30 start.
